About us
Vaya is the illegitimate child of three failed musical marriages determined not to make the same mistake as it’s parents, born out of the need to create something that didn’t just imitate the sound of Manchester but actually felt like it had something meaningful to say about the city.
Vaya combines the songwriting and lyrical expertise of Ryan O’Neill, nicely arranged with Ben Pearson’s schoolboy proficiency on bass and boxes with buttons. The absence of live drums on the songs the pair had put together provided the perfect excuse to capitalise on the meticulously impressive skills of Tom Boardman.
Not confining themselves to any particular genre or style of writing, the songs are allowed to develop characters of their own instead of being forced like a square peg into a round hole to make them sell. The band are not afraid to be taken the wrong way by misguided critics who might mistake catchy for commercial.
Definitely more refreshing than most of the current crop of bands, Vaya are more interested in establishing their own original sound than becoming the next ‘Arctic Mancys’
