About us

The Spectres came together about two years ago now, in the early hours of the morning during Miss Becky Brunning's Bday party. ShadyPhil and Al began a wee jam as they have been want to do for many years and among the sing along hits for which they were well known on the local party scene they also played some of Phil's own compositions. They were quickly joined by Mr Soren Hillis at the time a relativley new aquaitance on Djembi, Conga, and Darabuka and what insuede was, for them if no one else musical magic. But seriuosly this initial meeting went on for nearly 3 hours and resulted in the blowing of flat mate Little Chris's monitors, sorry Chris. Needless to say it was firmly agreed that they should get together in a proper rehersal space and continue to beef up the Folk/Reggae songs Phil had been writing over the previous 2 years. Two years on and having gigged extensively throughtout Edinburgh they have just finished production on their first album shortly to be put to press, and will be available to buy from their website. The Spectres influences are increadably varied and include: Jamiroquai, ACDC, Bob Dylan, The Cat Empire, Ben Harper, to name but a few. Phil's songs often have an underlying social commentary going on and his writing is heavily influenced by a love of Reggae music and Folk. Alan's bass lines come from a background in metal and funk while Soren is a drummer from a Rock background. The result is a unique blend of Reggae/Rock/Funk which doesn't easily fit into a genre and has to be heard to be understood.
