About us

It all started when phil asked me my name. The smoke and the moonlight glinting of his edible face, reminded me of a young pat sharp. How could i resist? I said "oliver," and he wept tears of joy. We decided to fall for one another and were bilsfully happy and thought it was everything we needed, but it wasnt.

Around the corner was a shoeshiner with a sweet childs voice, he mentioned to me, while polishing my new brown sandles, that he dreamt of singing like the late Billie Holiday. He blasted forward a saucy serinade and again Phil wept tears of joy, i on the other hand fainted with sheer happiness. When i awoke i found myself, bass in hand, creating the most funkadelic, sweet, baby bible, tootsweets this side of the bronx. A heaven was made on that day, thanks to Ash.

Nothing could better it, I thought, as i forgot the lesson learnt last time; that groove can be just around the next corner. Abbi, a jazz drummer for Old Man Witherspoon, penetrated our mountain of soul with her sex sticks and we create another, more sweeter, blissful heaven.

So now you must wait for the ever increasing sweat that will over come your bodies in a lucious fashion of youth and soul. Be ready and waiting.

REVIEWS

'The background influences that have been assimilated into The Ruby Groove’s catalogue, digested and now pour forth, could quite easily form the soundtrack to a Tarantino film or, as someone suggests, a porn movie.

There’s a swirling organ-tinged style, reminiscent of the 70’s soul style, which would not sound out of place in Quentin’s Jackie Brown. The set closes with an Oom-pah band style variation that could accompany the scene where someone has part of his anatomy re-aligned.

In between, the Wythenshawe based four piece move through country era Neil Young electric grooves before stepping up a gear into a prog rock romp, just to keep the assembled on their toes.

In vocalist Ashley McGuire, they have a front man who – apart from hitting his head on the ceiling of the Roadhouse – can hold and deliver the notes. As he sings "Baby, I can’t dance", he might not be able to, but there are a fair few onlookers who are moving along to the beat.'

'The Ruby Groove Specialises in an unique blend of org*smic pop-rock. Creating luscious ear candy sprinkled all over with folk-funk, 70's groove and blues, punked jazz, and finished off with a little bit of what you fancy.

They keep toes a tappin', knees a bendin' and hearts a singin' when they roll into town. So in their own words, 'pull up a ruby and get fabulous.'
