About us

In the summer of 2007, four Essex kids thrown together through boredom and social alienation formed an autonomous collective that would later take the shared noun of “The Riots”. Informed by the works of The Clash, George Orwell and Karl Marx, using instruments that were begged, stolen and borrowed they took residence in Simon’s studio and began writing. Combining socially conscious lyrics, with punk tones, the resulting collection of songs were debuted live in September, with gigs throughout Essex and London in October and November. The band headed to Jigga Jam studios on a cold November week to commit their material to tape, the resulting efforts can be heard above. In 2008 the band continued to assualt the Essex and London live music scene, earning a reputation for frenzied, agitated, stentorian performances. They continue to stick to their socialist principles releasing their material free via myspace or by giving away CD's and self stenciled tshirts at gigs. The band have played nearly 50 gigs in their first year and had a few line up changes along the way. In April 2008 Joe Spinner was drafted in to replace Mon on bass and in August 2008 Marv Parker picked up the sticks for the recently departed Si, at the same time Mike Darrah was inducted to play keys. Now a regular feature on the London and Essex gig circuit with more recording and an autumn EP due for release, The Riots are assaulting the music industry on their own terms!
- Believe the hype, this band will be savage!-
