About us
The Grim Northern Social are set to unleash their new Double A side single Watch out for the Spies/Urban Pressure on June 25th. The single is a snapshot of the in-yer-face energy of The GNS, with the tightly wired Watch out for the Spies and the glorious escapist anthem Urban Pressure, both essential additions to the sound of the summer of 2007. These are songs that don’t shy away from the revered territories of Bowie, Jagger and Townshend, while retaining their own inspirational trademarks and originality.
The band’s reputation as a live act in their homeland of Scotland has seen them sell out Glasgow’s legendary King Tut’s for two nights running, twice in the last 18 months, simply through word of mouth. The full high energy live experience will be brought to this year’s Glastonbury Festival, where The Grims will grace the John Peel stage. The band will be appearing live across the country following their Glasto’ appearance and showcasing new material from the forthcoming album - also titled Watch Out For the Spies.
The bands earlier progress was halted following the tour supporting their self titled debut album when Ewan MacFarlane’s wife (and then band manager) was involved in a near fatal car crash. Upon her recovery The GNS returned to the live scene last year with a new line up and an explicit desire for success. Following the revamp, The GNS decided not to use recordings that were overseen by legendary producer John Cornfield (Razorlight, Supergrass, Oasis, Muse), in favour of self produced sessions that were a truer representation of the band’s live power and vibrancy. This audacious move exemplifies the band’s commitment to their own vision and to their quest of becoming a truly expressive force.
These incredible songs and highly charged live show are not to be missed. After watching their scintillating live set, Michael Eavis said “this is the band we’ve been waiting for”, before declaring them winners of this years Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition to play the John Peel stage. No one has any reason to believe that the rest of the world won’t follow suit.
