About us
The Donde Stars are a 4 piece band originating from the dark recesses of The Rhondda Valley in South Wales. The band formed in Christmas 2003 and comprise of Luke Williams (Guitar / Vocals), Mat Acreman (Bass), Matthew Harris (Keyboard / Guitar / Strings), and Michael Thompson (Drums). Described as ..One of the best unsigned bands in the UK.. XFM and ..F***ing Brilliant.. BBC Radio Wales, the band is regularly compared to the likes of Radiohead, Muse and Jeff Buckley, and their influences further draw upon the likes of The Pixies, Manic Street Preachers, Elliott Smith and Charles Bukowski.
The bands Melancholic anthems reflect their heritage of growing up in an economically depressed and socially deprived area. Luke explains ..essentially our songs are tragic, romantic, introverted songs about unrequited love, being skint, feeling unconnected to the world and nature, and a terrible uneasiness with adult life... The band describe their music as ..Spire twisting beauty rock.., Luke's lamenting sorrow etched voice transcends above the seemingly schitzophrenic collage of intricate guitar and overdriven bass.
The band have had a good start to their career receiving regular radio play on international, national and local radio. The band received the accolade of being named Best Band of 2005 by college radio station GTFM, and have further been personally requested to perform a live radio session for BBC Radio Wales.
In the 3 years the Donde Stars have been together they have played extensively throughout the UK cementing a large fan base, supporting the likes of The Crimea and Drew McConnel (Babyshambles). In 2004 the band saw off competition from over 1000 bands in order to win the right to play The Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the Performing Rights Society.
The band recently recorded their Debut Single, You Can Keep the Kids, with the help of Tim Lewis (Spiritualized) to be released on Reacharound Records in association with Red Case Productions, Via Pinnacle, on March 13th 2007.
The year 2007 promises to be an exciting year for the Donde Stars, having just come back from a UK mini tour and further releases anticipated.
