"Good And gutsy take on the Arctic Monks cheeky chappiness. These kick off with great use of the 'Latest Flame' or that Smiths track off Meat is Murder riff on the effervescent Jack the Lad…. Nicely paced [i.e fast] songs throughout, and good guitar moves… bits of The Undertones and Velvets and Stones in the cool garage moves…" Bugbear

"The Black Lies are on the cusp of greatness. Its only a matter of time before some bod who makes records sees em and thinks the same way. Fun / Frantic and Free with good tunes."

"The Black Lies really lived up to their reputation tonight. Firstly they and their fans had the best haricuts we've seen. The mancunian lead singer had the king of the haircuts. He was a charmful fella and really lead from the front. These played an indie-punk, full of poetry and clever stuff. The songs were short and the crowd went ballistic. We'd love to see these picked up and get famous, but please not until they play one of our nights again. We must make mention of their fans as well. A boozy bunch that stage dived and stripped off naked throughout the show." Tube Club
