About us
In 1999 in a science class friends Leon and Bodge were talking about their favourite band The Offspring and decided that they should start their own punk band. At this point they asked classmate Mirko to join Bodge on guitar and Ben Shuttlewood to play on drums.
Six months down the line Mirko has left the band so Bodge, Leon and Ben carry on. Up until this point Bodge had taken the job of vocals, but hearing long time friends Richard Long sing, there immediately asked him to join the band. Also at the same time the band decided to go for a new image along with a new name, changing from “Nothing In The Middle” to “Dying Colours”. Two months passed and Leon decided to leave the band, which meant they needed a replacement bass player, so they called upon long time friend Tom Redwood to fill the gap, and again a name change occurred with the name changing to “Mythical Pulse”. Four months later and after two gigs the decision was made that they needed another guitarist because the sound was too dead, along came another friend Keith
After numerous gigs and many arguments the band decided to call it a day, keeping all friendships intact.
Now in 2006 with Chris Slocombe who had recently left his old band “Infectious” wanted to continue with the rush and drive he got from playing he wanted to carry it on, speaking to Bodge it came about they had the same direction on what they wanted to do, drafting in the original bass player Leon and Rich on vocals “Nothing In The Middle” was reborn
With a new passion, desire and a different take on the music, leaving the poetry type lyrics behind and going for a deeper heavier feel to the music, with all members experienced in there instruments and a better understanding of the music this should come through in our music.
Now we have a better feel of what were are doing we felt that out name did not suit us, so from this day forth we will be known as "SMOKING KILLS"
Along with the new name came a new face to the band in the form of Jamie Crutchly on lead guitar, we are postive that he sold his soul to the devil, or he in-habits jimi hendrix's soul! The addition of jamie brought a new sound and direction for the band, bringing that iron maiden-esque feel to the guitar work.
