About us
MONITOR are Jason Condon(guitar, vox), Mark Murphy(drums), Fergal Condon(bass) & Brian Healy(guitar). The band started out in early 2005.
Their first recording was described as an E.P. of "......swagger & promise...." by the Evening Echo's Don O' Mahony. Jackie Hayden of Hotpress magazine suggested that "....Monitor seem to be able to bridge the chasm between bands like Muse and the more commercial end of the spectrum”.
Keith Cullen of Setanta records commented that ...”It's one of the best demos I’ve heard in a long time"...
_______Encouraged by these reactions, the band re-entered the studio and recorded the follow up E.P. “Higher Than The Sky”. This was chosen by Jackie Hayden as 'Hotpress Pick of the Fortnight' who wrote;
“Monitor are also from Cork. They’ve moved on from their recent appearance in this column with a hot new CD and seem to be edging ahead of most of their local rivals. The CD’s title track ‘Higher Than The Sky’ sweeps majestically along, with breezy vocals and punchy chords. ‘Broken Leaves’ is slower and harder, with convincing vocals over a throbbing rhythm. ‘All Is I Know’ ups the ante and delivers a chugging riff that nags until you give in. I gave in.”
_______Monitor have been compared to Coldplay, U2, Foo Fighters and Stereophonics amongst others, and have shared the stage with bands such as Turn, Delorentos and Vesto Varro to name a few.
__________The band recently shot to the attention of local and national press when they were chosen as finalists for the National Student Music Awards, which takes place on the 26th of April in Dublin.
2007 is shaping up to be a big year for Monitor.
