About us

IN IT TO LOSE
“Ebullient, slightly scruffy and refreshingly self-effacing”
– Popjustice

We've been slowly getting our shtick together since 1998. We've only played two 'gigs' in ten years, and neither of them were proper gigs. We don't have any gigs booked. Want us to play your night? So, book us already.

DEAN SUBURBS
Dean Anthony Sobers was born at Lambeth in 1984. He grew up in Coventry and graduated the University of Lancaster in 2006 with a 1st Class Degree in English Literature. He was promptly employed as a toilet attendant by McDonald’s but resigned after five days. He currently lives in West Hampstead and works as a fact verifier at Which? magazine.

MATT KAUFMAN.
Matthew Alexander Kaufman was born at Highgate in 1984. He was educated at the Warwick School for Boys and failed his ‘A’-levels at Stratford-upon-Avon College in 2001. He enjoyed a brief stint as a freelance journalist before living on a kibbutz in Northern Israel in 2006, where he was caught in the IDF conflict with Hezbollah, in which both sides were firing at him. He is a published short story writer and professional actor. He is currently unemployed and homeless.

HADE JAGO
Hadyn Arthur Jago Kaufman was born at Milton Keynes in 1989. He has been drumming since he was six years old but still has to be taught the most rudimentary beats at every rehearsal. His ambition is to assistant manage a Pizza Express in Warwick.

Influences:
* SPARKS
* John Carpenter
* Modest Mouse
* Peter O’Toole
* William Morris
* Evelyn, Auberon and Alexander Waugh
* Private Eye
* Viz magazine

Sounds a bit like Curtis Mayfield and Neil Young in a punch-up over Björk at a celebrity Jeff Buckley tribute concert, with TV On The Radio looking on (amused but trying to appear disapproving), then having a rigorous chat about it in the bar afterwards with Sparks.

This Buff Tiger fights predominately with his hair and toenails.

ALMOST FAMOUS PEOPLE WE HAVE MADE MUSIC WITH:
* Buzz Allan (Edition)
* Luke Durance, Patrick Furness (Naked With Horses)
* Will Farquason (Mark Owen / Gareth Gates)
* Toni-Marie Iommi (LunarMile)
* Martin Luckhurst (New Spirit Navigator)
* Fred McLaren (Post War Years)
* Anna Speedy (Red Pony / The Loves)
* Oli Stewart (Cueball 8)

p.s. We know our songs up there are not ANYWHERE near broadcast quality, but who cares, no DJ is going to be allowed to play a song with lyrics like what 'Lone Giant' has in it anyways, so...

p.p.s. Matt Kaufman. believes he is key to the genesis of this website. He invented what became the Fopp Unsigned Network (primarily to get his own records on sale in Fopp) in 2002, which XFM was a partner/sponsor of. This site is obviously a development on his original conception...
