'Come to the real Med' ran a recent ad enticing people to the delights of northern Kent's most populated belt of towns. But unless your idea of fun is trying to avoid a punch in the face on a Friday night then the only reason you'd really want to go there is to sample the delights of that regions finest new music makers, you're absolutely sure to hear more of over the course of the year, Polka Party!
Despite only having played a handful of live shows (all to dancing, foot tapping audiences) Polka Party are attracting widespread interest with their brand of succinct, no-nonsense indie-pop. Hand selected to support The Horrors and Lupen Crook at their local Indie Haunt the Tap and Tin.
They have already caught the ears of Mr. Tom Robinson who gave them a bunch of plays across his 6music shows. They also won the 'Re-introducing' feature which put them up to a public vote (indie X Factor stylee!) against all the other bands played on that weeks 'Introducing...' programme.
Polka Party take all the greatest aspects of the songs they like (a cross section of influences include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Young Knives, Ladytron, Interpol and MC5), mix in some youthful charm and voila! a recipe for catchy, fun and totally accessible guitar pop that knows no enemies!
Tom O’Leary (vox/ guitarist) Ash Tapson (bass) met at the tender age of 11 and decided, over swapping test answers in Math’s lessons, that their friendship held more than just hanging out and messing around. Fast Forward a decade and they met Stuart Lusted in the local pub over a pint and a packet of pork scratchings realizing they needed a drummer with as much thought, rhythm and energy as them so they set about making noise, noise and even more noise. Since then they have injected a little melody into range. So this year make sure you pay attention to the good words of the Collins English Dictionary (see above) and DANCE DANCE DANCE!
