About us

Founded on the belief that love, death, and drinking are all the same thing, PHINEAS GAUGE explores the pain, joy, and humour of each. Though not in that order. Named for the man whose railroad spike through the skull led to a greater understanding of the human brain, the band is an eclectic mix of acoustic and electronic music. Poignant lyrics, lush melodies, and a mournful voice, Phineas Gauge masterfully balances the laughter of sadness and the pain of delight. PHINEAS GAUGE currently divides its collective time between Los Angeles and London.

SEAN-MICHAEL RILEY: Songwriter, piano player and whip cracker, he has played with bands such as PSYCHOQUEEN and DRAMARAMA. Fortunately, he's not an angry drunk or he'd be pissed off all the time.

RICH FERGUSON: Rich called us up one day and said, "You guys are the greatest band in the world and I must sing with you!" How could we resist? We're all stoked that he joined us not only because he's a great singer, but because he smells better than us.

JEREMY GOLDSMITH: He is really too nice of a guy to be hanging around with us. A talented guitarist, he can even play with a broken right hand. Rumour is he came to America running from the law.

CLEO MARIE: The eye candy of the group, she’s British and often intoxicated -- and that’s all plenty good enough for us. She can also sing and play cowbell, but not at the same time.

EVAN URKOFSKY: Drummist and percussioner. There is only one beat in the history of mankind that Evan cannot play. And the only person who ever played it went insane. Come to think of it, Evan may be that person.
