About us
Welcome to Our Innocence Lost!!!! An explosion of melody and emotion, songs for the everyday hero fueled by power and angst set to a backdrop of alienation, paranoia and self doubt.
"I don't know how it all came together really - it just did, we've been doing this for a long time" says' James, the bands Lead singer and Rhythm guitarist. Well, they are here, 24 months after the bands incarnation they are set to release their debut album packed full of songs for the disenfranchised.
Based in Manchester (UK) Our Innocence Lost are an Alternative/New Wave/Rock band that have been compared to My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds to Mars and early Manic Street Preachers. Energy, twinned guitars and unforgettable melody merge with instantly identifiable lyrics.
O.I.L were brought to life a little over two years ago but the embryo of the band stretches way back when James met with a then 16 year old virtuoso guitarist, Craig, they began getting together and just playing the songs they liked listening too, just like any other teenagers do. It wasn't long before they had thoughts of playing gigs, and so, they were soon joined by bassist and friend Steve, who had been active in the Manchester gig scene for sometime and was a keen fan of 'the unusual'
Three quarters of O.I.L. were now in place but it would be another 6 months before the line up would be complete. The band played shows up and down the country with various short lived drummers, experimenting with their music and finding their direction. It soon became clear that they needed a settled lineup if they were to ever be taken seriously. They needed the final piece of the puzzle - A drummer that was not only solid, but one that shared the same commitment and ethos that the existing 3 had worked so hard to create. Enter Jaykay!! - a 21 year old Manchester lad who had become disillusioned with playing the usual circuit in bands and was concentrating on teaching drums, as opposed to touring. He was looking for a challenge, something fresh that he could get his teeth into and after just one jam with the band he knew he'd found what he was looking for, Jaykay was in, and the line up was complete "We locked in immediately and none of the others needed convincing that we'd found what we were looking for" recalls Steve.
The band got out touring their songs and getting tighter as a band "We actually got it all together at shows really, we already had gigs booked so Jaykay had to hit the ground running - certainly in at the deep end" remembers Craig. 18 months on and they find themselves with a huge base of fans, in the top 3 most hit bands in the UK on myspace and selling out venues. "We try and connect as best we can with our songs, I think our fans get what we're saying, we all feel the same way, no-one's sure what's going to happen with their lives and neither are we - who knows what the future holds?" explains James. One thing is for certain, this is just the beginning............
