About us

Influenced by Syd Barrett, Stravinsky, quiet music and loud music, London-based trio Mozzy Green are a melting pot of experimental soundscapes and acoustic noise.
Since forming in 2006, Mozzy Green have played hundreds of gigs in London, at key venues including sell-out shows at The Spitz and The Rock Garden, where they came 2nd in the Battle of the Bands competition within 3 months of completing their line-up. Blue Lullaby was also recently selected for Garageband.com`s Track of the Week (April 2007)
Led by charismatic front man, Ben Sommers and joined by Anna Scott on cello, and, in early 2007 Jake Wheeler on drums, Mozzy Green have a unique sound where the richness of the cello provides the perfect compliment to Sommers' haunting guitar lines.

Influenced by her soul piano playing father and royal ballet dancing mother Anna learned to play the piano after listing to classical music at ballet lessons.
Anna’s musical background is predominately classical. She joined the County Orchestra at the age of 14 playing the likes of Stravinsky, Messiaen & Mahler and went on to studying composition at Dartington College of Arts. She was soon noticed for her beautiful improvised melodies around university and started doing regular sessions with bands and singer song- writers. She has also worked on film sound tracks and musical art installations before joining Mozzy Green.

Born into a life of touring on the road with his mother a bohemian seventies actress involved with the likes of Queen, Page and Plant, David Bowie and Mott The Hoople, Ben Sommers had the perfect start for his chosen path.
Surrounded by music from an early age, Ben picked up a guitar at the tender age of 7 and later formed his first serious band, Loden Jumbo with Jamie Morrison (The Noisettes) in Cambridge where the two met whilst studying music.
Ben started writing under the name Mozzy Green in 2004, recorded four self-financed EP’s and an album and in 2004 and was funded by the Arts Council to develop his song-writing skills. Met Anna Scott in 2006.

Raised in a mad frenzy of tankard-wearing Morris dancers, drummer Jake was surrounded by music from day one. Dragged around from festival to festival from an early age, mainly listening to his father’s four-part harmony group singing barbershop, soul, and English folk tunes.
Started drumming when he was 8 years old.
At college he played playing in countless funk bands and eventually ended up in a drum and bass band with Middleman bassist Lee Smith. The college was a haven for music and during his time there he shared lessons with Max from The Kooks and Sunshine Underground.
Studied music production at Leeds College of Music and became the man behind the glass, recording bands and making dance music to be played out at the weekends.

Since completing their line-up in early 2007, Mozzy Green have become a regular feature on the London circuit, playing a diverse range of venues across London and the south-east.
