About us
Motel was originally conceived around the backend of 2006 by longstanding flatmates Sean Pregnolato and Graeme van Rensburg. From their subterranean dwelling somewhere in north London the twosome began experimenting with different influence styles before settling on what is ultimately their own niche blend of groove orientated, reggae inspired, lounge rock. With the help of some nifty audio applications the duo began performing live however it soon became apparent that they were in dire need of a bassist.
In mid 2007 they recruited 5-string marvel Felipe "Little Lighting" Lopez whose driving bass lines encapsulated the duo’s simple yet effective sonic formula. As a three piece (or 4 including the laptop) the band took to the streets receiving, overall, a good reception and winning two localised band competitions.
Seeking further realism and depth during their rehearsals and live performances, the band decided to ditch their backing tracks (sorry Cubase) and summoned old pal and sound engineer Kevin Bowman (guitar & backing vocals) in early 2008 adding further dynamics to their ever-widening sound-scape. Unmistakably distinct, the band offers a mature and structured alternative to the current Indie dominated mainstream with punchy and lively ensembles that will surely get your ass moving. Stay tuned for gig postings and song uploads…
