About us
| M A R I E T U E J E |
It would be convenient to think of M A R I E T U E J E as just another female singer-songwriter. Think again. This multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer has garnered comparisons with Echo & The Bunnymen, PJ Harvey, Beck and Karen Carpenter, producing what is, in her own words, a "folk, rock, pop explosion".
She began writing music at the age of 8, and by 10 was experimenting with live multi-tracking, and was obsessed with the UK Top 40 charts - meticulously noting down the weekly positions and the charts' ups, downs, new entries and non-movers.
This fascination with pop soon developed into an obsession with 4AD records and the early 90's shoegazing scene and, whilst still a teenager, 4AD sanctioned her remix of Lush's 1994 track 'Love At First Sight'.
A music degree, several years and several bands later, Marie discovered the art of solo, writing and recording the brilliant six-track EP 'In The Back Room' in 2006. 'In The Back Room' will finally see the light of day in Spring '07. Marie has been laconically gigging her way 'round London and in March 2007 supported American cult favourite Anton Barbeau. Live, her energetic set beautifully captures the force of a full band with the alternative pop sound that is her own, unmistakable, signature.
