A zealous London-based four-piece with a point to prove, Lightning Type pound noisily beneath the self-erected banner of ‘Anthemic Post-Punk Art-Rock.’

Hailing originally from South Africa, Lightning Type toured, recorded an album and shot a popular music video for local cable network channel MK89 before moving to London. So where's the album fellas? Uh ... well ... the masters were ... how can I put this ... the masters were stolen from the studio in Johannesburg. I guess that's how it goes in Africa!? So instead of having their songs stolen on the internet, Lightning Type went Old School and got them stolen for real.

Consequently, there's a lot of energy buzzing about at a Lightning Type show. But, unlike many bands with a harder edge, it’s not all thrash and sweat: at least not for its own sake. The urgency is tangible: these guys are not kids any longer. Frontman Carl Addy: 'We left good jobs to be here, careers that our parents would be proud of. So either we’re gonna rock out and make it happen for ourselves, or we need to dust off the briefcases, cover our tatts, and go back to the office. Consequently, every gig is an opportunity to go out and back our conviction up with all the energy we can muster.’

As the main songwriter, Addy’s songs are astute observations of modern professional and personal life, from negotiating the black hole suction of the suit-clad professional environment, to questioning the hip scenester movements in music and fashion through which the band bulldozers itself. Influenced by everything from Hard-core Christian metal circa 1994 to Ben Folds and other melody-mongers of that ilk, Lightning Type bring the ROCK, but not without a generous helping of hook and melody.
