The Band

About us

Lahayna are East London's Premier Funk/Rock band.
We don't care about being part of the "scene".We want to make music that
inspires us, makes people dance and enjoy life with lyrics that actually
mean something! We believe that music should feel positive even if you're
dealing with deep subject matters.
We're all influenced by the great artists of the 60s and 70s (Stevie
Wonder, Funkadelic, Hendrix, The Beatles, Marvin Gaye etc) and that
inspires us to create songs based around the amazing musicianship and
innovation of those golden eras but always with the focus on reflecting the
society we live in today.

The band have been described as the Chiles married to James Brown, divorced
by Jet, heartbroken and left in tatters by Motown.

We try and bring a whole other dimension to our live show to make each gig
a party! Having already headlined at the likes of Clapham Grand, Metro, The
Garage and a recent sell out gig at the ULU we have developed a devoted
fanbase that grows with each gig. We've got a big tour coming up and are
trying to play as much of the country as possible. If we are not playing in
your city and you want to see us funkin it live let us know what your local
venue is and we'll do our best to get it on the tour!
Quotes

"the band sound as exciting as the Red Hot Chilli Pepper's did before every
track contained the word 'California'" (DIY fanzine)

"The perfect antidote to the 3 chord new wave post punk whatever music that
is currently clogging up the "alternative" guitar based music scene."
(Fully Loaded Promotions)

"Lahayna eschew Flea style bass wankery in favour of simple, effective,
strong punchy bass lines, lending 'Go Go Down' a flavour reminiscent of
Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition'. Bass work apart the track echoes the more
melodic sound of contemporary Chili's style and 'Replenish' era Reef." (MOA
magazine)
