About us


We are King Pest, a guitar 4 piece from South Manchester consisting of a man mountain as lead vocalist and songwriter, an electrician with hooks channelled from other planets, a 30 something who took up drums on hearing a demo of the group after 15 years of not playing and a bass player who looks like he'd rather be somewhere else. Our music is hook-laden power pop with intensely personal lyrics. We have been described as 'The Pixies violating The Beatles whilst being bummed by The Smiths' and 'Gram Parsons if he was in The Pixies'. We believe there are no bigger compliments than these. Most importantly, we are Mancunian rather than having come here from elsewhere and then claiming citizenship. As a result, we embody the great tradition of Mancunian musicians - i.e. we have little idea about what is going on elsewhere and better still do not care. This is vital in creating something which we feel is new. Plus we're too fat to fit in skinny jeans. You may hear several reference points in the music - but we have no peers.
