About us

Kiina are an energetic group with an edge. Hailing from Brighton, Finland, Devon and London.

Katarina Holmberg (lead vocals), a Swedish - Finn Brighton girl and Steve Down, the Devonian (guitar and backing vocals) met whilst studying music at Southampton University in 2003. They have been a musical team ever since.

Kiina were scouted by the wonderful Concorde 2 to play support slots for Neneh Cherry and Incognito this year. As well as playing the great music venues of Brighton Kiina have been playing around London in venues such as the Soho Revue Bar, The 12 bar, The ULU with more dates later this year at the Ramshackle and the Bedford TBA. See our myspace for listing details.

Kiina are a 6 piece band who sometimes goes out as an 8 or 12 piece if extra backing vocalists, string or horn players come along for a gig to embellish the songs. Joe Erber plays fusion jazz/pop/soul keys, Marco a seasoned Italian bassist and performer and Matt Weston provide the creative rhythm section for Kiina’s songs. Francesca Young and Steve Down provide colourful soulful harmonies. Together the band create a unique chemistry that is obvious to the audiences at their live shows.

Kiina have also been encouraged and supported by RockBrighton and are excited about the upcoming gig at the The Brighton Coalition on September 5th which will feature Seeker, Kiina and Two Spot Gobi.

The band have spent the last 6 months gigging their songs out, writing new songs and recording. Their four track EP which will be available at the beginning of September.

Kiina are looking for management (they want more time to write songs!) a record label and/or financial backing, future publishing deals; they have already successfully signed single songs with Sony BMG and Universal.

The industry is changing and Kiina are on their way with it. Watch this space.
