About us
"I began playing the piano when I was seven, and from that moment, my thoughts about life and the process of survival was changed. It's strange to say, but music absorbs so much of my time that I wish I could grow another brain just to focus on the mundane things such as when to eat and when to send birthday cards".
Kaj Skjervik 2006
Who is Kaj Skjervik?
Born to Norwegian father and English mother, Kaj was delivered to the world in the early hours of 9th June 1980 in the city of Stavanger, Norway.
After the death of his father a short year and a half later. A young Kaj moved with his mother to her native England.
So, Is Kaj Skjervik a singer-songwriter?
Yes, well maybe not in the traditional sense. As well as playing the guitar, piano and writing his own tunes. Kaj has played all of the instruments on both 'Calling Out Your Name' and ‘All You’d Say’.
Seeking inspiration from many artists, including Prince, Jack Johnson and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Kaj's music is constantly evolving and changing shape.
"I recorded a few other songs at the same session as ‘Calling Out Your Name’. The others I had demoed and knew musically at least where I was going. With this song I was testing myself. I remember sitting in the studio garden and writing the last verse in a tea-break. "You asked if we should dance………,” it's a little quirky but I like it's groove".
So what is Kaj Skjervik up to @ the moment?
Currently playing a residency @ London's infamous 12 Bar Club on Denmark Street W1. Known to many fondly as 'Tinpan Alley', Denmark Street plays more than a cameo role in the history of popular music. This regular spot has given Kaj the chance to explore just what a 'singer-songwriter' might do live.
"Sometimes it's great to see what your capable of on your own. The quiet moments, the big moments, it’s all there waiting for you to put music to it. Use your voice to make a percussive sound, or to mimick an instrument such as the trumpet. That’s always fun”.
Ultimately, Kaj's passion for music would lead us to where he is today. With a collection of fresh songs, produced, performed, arranged and financed entirely himself.
"Right now, I'm just happy with where my life and music are heading. Whenever I feel like creating music, I can indulge my mind and enthusiasm in playing the role of the drummer, singer or whoever. Having the opportunity to create anything, a song, a performance or a vibration is a great blessing for the soul".
