About us


My name is John Hills, I’m 25 years old and I work on a farm up here in Yorkshire. After a long sabbatical from songwriting while I took my degree, I’m just starting to write songs again and so far I’m feeling very inspired. Being a country boy I hope nature shines through in my music, although I wouldn’t describe myself as a folk act because the songs go a little closer to the bone than what people usually call folk. The songs are all about melody and by building on a melodic idea I’m trying to create a kind of mindscape which people can step into - some are happy and some are more melancholic but I hope it all takes the audience to good places. I play about a gig a week, meet with some great people, and I’m constantly introducing new material. I love the community element of making music - music a way of life and being involved in a great scene is far more important to me than getting a recording contract. That being the case, I hope to see you at a gig sometime soon!
