About us

Howl Griff is a musician and beekeeper from Aberystwyth, West Wales. "I've been around two things all my life," he says, "bees and music. I've been stung so many times, that my blood tests show enough venom to kill a normal person. I guess you just get used to it." While he's justly celebrated for his fine Welsh honey ("we give it out at gigs all over the world, from to Newport to New York"), Howl's real talent is for song-writing: his futurist, poetic folk-rock has received rave reviews and comparisons with the likes of Super Furry Animals, The Byrds, Traffic and Neil Young. After gigging worldwide and landing a record deal with previous band The Occupiers, Howl has now gone solo. Supported by his backing band, he's looking to make a big impression with his new material in 2008.
There’s been a lot of interest in Howl Griff in the UK and they have picked up some airplay and press in Q, Rolling Stone and the London Times / Guardian. Warner Bros PR has shown some interest and did some press shots and publicity.
They are a captivating and charismatic live band with a set of songs that lasts 45mins. They sing in their native Welsh language and in English. They have gained a passionate and enthusiastic cult following through gigging in Wales and London.
Howl Griff is a finalist in the 2007 Song for Wales (Can I Gymru) contest.
The track ‘Ti yw fy haul’ was produced by Owen Powell (ex-Catatonia)
Howl Griff played the 2004 Tin Pan Alley festival as part of ‘The Occupiers’.
Radio 1’s Bethan Elfyn used the song ‘You Are The Light’ on a compilation CD she created of unsigned Welsh acts.
‘You Are The Light’ has also been commissioned for use on a film set in New Zealand by Director Scott Walker (untitled as yet) and the ‘Pete Doherty: Off the Record’ DVD to be released in March 2007.
Their self-funded and self-released debut album sold 500 copies mostly in gigs and off their website.
They are about to release their first album proper in Winter 2007. It was produced by Owen Powell of Catatonia and engineered by Tim Lewis (Spiritualized and Julian Cope). It promises to be an electrifying debut.
