About us
Harper Ash is Ashley Harper-Little plus a little help. No Identity is the debut album and I’m working on the second right now. Listen in, my soul is in there.
I started writing a long time ago but never got serious until 2006, two years later it's finished. The album is mixed in styles- I wrote what felt right, not to suit any commercial genre. I don't think any record label would entertain the folk of 'Mr Kelleher', the classical 'Piano One' and alternative/rock 'Dragonfly' on the same album! But it clearly works for you guys- the feedback's been great.
Making Music, feels good. So good that I can't put myself to bed, make myself something to eat or even go to the toilet! I'm stuck to my seat unable to temporarily tear myself away from my current creation.
The plan now? Well, the initial response has been unexpected, and overwhelming! 'I thank you all' The music has spread through Facebook, MySpace and other sites and has been a far bigger success than I anticipated. I'll continue writing the second album and see if I can get it right again!
Writing the album, some way through one song at the end of one day, it’s going so well and I don’t want to stop but it’s 5.30am. I just hope to god that I don’t get run over or die in my sleep because more than anything I just want to continue writing this song tomorrow!
'China Girl' I checked into an old hotel in the back of nowhere to get some ideas together. To keep the noise down for my neighbours, I played and sung more quietly than usual- no falsetto, no strumming unlike previous songs. China Girl developed and became the quietest song on the album. I played it for my wife when she walked down the aisle on our wedding day.
'Tubes of Red Pain' I'd had the tune written for a couple of months already but I couldn't find lyrics to marry it with. Life took a turn for two people closest to me and the song was made.
