About us

GIRLS THAT SCRATCH started life as a barbershop quartet but a string of line-up changes and a love of adrenaline fuelled rock 'n' roll forced the band into becoming a hot rocking trio specialising in jagged new wave post disco punk.

To date amongst other things GIRLS THAT SCRATCH have been played on BBC Radio 1, XFM, BBC Essex, plugged on BBC 6Music, plugged on Virgin Radio Xtreme, playlisted by Pulse Rated, played and interviewed on Phoenix FM, played on Livewire, playlisted by QBS Radio and have also spent 3 weeks at number 1 of the QBS Alternative Rock Top40 in Qatar after knocking Arctic Monkeys off number 1.

Bands that GIRLS THAT SCRATCH have played alongside include Bromheads Jacket and The Mystery Jets amongst others.

GIRLS THAT SCRATCH are:

Chris - Guitar & Vocals

Matt - Bass & Vocals

Rob - Drums & Vocals

What the papers say:

". . .gloriously jagged, sweat soaked two minutes and 13 seconds that should have label bosses frothing at the mouth and forming a disorderly queue any minute now. . .sounding fresh, confident and more than ready for the adoration they will no doubt be receiving, in spades, very soon". The Trash Society

". . .stripped-down post-punk gem sharp enough to cut glass and possess sufficient jagged beauty to win hearts and minds. Girls That Scratch possess the precious ability to articulate properly considered, passionate opinions into brilliant pop tunes. Someone give them a record deal". Southend Evening Echo

“. . .potentially enormous band. . . its done with style, substance and not an unhealthy nod to the best punk & post-punk rock bands to come out of this country since ’75’ Panic Magazine.

"Girls That Scratch should be huge. Every week mainstream music mags wet their pants over the next jerky, post-punk new wave blah blah blah act eager to cash in on the popularity of Franz Ferdinand etc. and this band deliver that sound, but with so much more style and humour. GTS are yet another Essex band that XFM have cottoned onto, and rightly so" - Noisyzine.

". . .the attempts at not liking them failed. I let the CD play through a few times, and the construction - more Gang of Four than garage punk or indie rock, wins through, as does the slow-burn element to the choruses. . .'Strip' has a gorgeous bass line on the chorus, rising and falling out of kilter with the staccato deadpan intonations that fit over it. There's a lovely end to the song, too, a simple guitar stab fighting with a reflected version between the left and right channels. There's a definite sense of post punk energy here, which is good - I'm all for the Bloc Party revolution to continue, and for melodic and squished songs with fat bass lines to find their way back into the popular consciousness". - Glasswerk.co.uk.
