About us
Born in the summer of 2007 on the sleepy Cornwall Devon border gill are the collaborative forces of Ed Gill (vocals/guitars) Kick Hancox (piano/samples/vocals) and Rich Wills (drums)
“Their melancholy indie-pop leans towards Elliot Smith and Aqualung while having a gutsy edge more in keeping with the likes of Muse and Green Day” GO2 Feb ‘08
From stripped down piano led tracks (All The Changes) to gutsy guitar laden anthems (Day) the one thing never far away from a gill track is a hook, a natural ability Ed unearthed from a young age, with the pop sensibilities of bands gone by never far from his thought processes. Collectively, the three piece have diverse music tastes from PJ Harvey to Justin Timberlake and draw inspiration from the longevity of bands such as Radiohead.
Highlights already in 2008 have been the inclusion of a gill track on a cover-mount CD for music industry magazine Music Already distributed to 10,000 subscribers and a show at the prestigious Bristol Fringe Festival. The band is booked to play the Devon Aeon Festival later this summer and has a heavy gig schedule planned across the south-west for the remainde of the year which will see them promoting their forthcoming debut EP release on Squareball Records and build on their rapidly growing fan base.
Creatively, the band continues to develop, producing an expanding catalogue of accessible material, backed up by quality demos produced in their tiny home studio.
gill have made their first forays into the local music scene but look to go further – much further.
