The Band
About us
Geniac is the product of four cohesively diverse musical minds from South / East London. With influences ranging from Jeff Buckley, Who, Queen, Chili's, Zeppelin, Bowie, Mars Volta and Muse, their music is an eclectic mix of rock and pop with a thumping danceable beat.
Formed in 2005, the founding members Matt and Chris were brought together over 8 years ago by a mutual friend who owned a fish & chip shop and suggested that he knew a "good drummer". Matt had previously been in a band called Shampoo and left shortly before the band traveled to Japan and enjoyed extensive chart success with "We're in Trouble". From there Matt & Chris were in various other bands when they decided to move the music in a different direction and advertised for a new guitarist. Sam answered the ad and joined the band, bringing a love of ska and heavy rock into their music. Shortly after this, Ian was recruited and with his distinctive bass style, the current Geniac line up was complete.
The band experimented with an electronic sound for a year or so but decided to direct the music towards a more avant garde rock experience, whilst still retaining a strong danceable rhythm to their sound as "Girls like to dance and we like to watch it!!"
The result is probably the most energetic live show you will ever see, with Matt's performance reminiscent of an early Jagger crossed with an effervescent Iggy Pop.
