From the first show this talented young singer song writer played at The Barfly in Glasgow some months ago, Ewan Butler is a name that seems to be echoing through the cities as a possible candidate for resurrecting the lost art of the acoustic tinged story.

Great deals of potential suitors have, are trying to or soon will attempt the last great musical trial of taking to an empty stage and seizing the hand of the crowd. For many though, they will only receive the painstaking reward of thin air bathed in unwelcoming silence. If attention was to be named, it would be called Penelope and she cannot be won that easily.

Much like the struggle of Telemachus fighting the arrogant would be claimants to his father's throne, Butler battles and wins his stake of the evening with tales of wit and love and angst. As well as having the ability to take the opening slot and making it his own, he also has the uncanny talent of moulding the mood of the crowd for the remainder of the night. It is no wonder headlining acts such as John Power are at ease playing a set on what must seem like their very own musical Ithaca.

This is a talent that is still raw and is understandably no-where near its true potential but yet with only a handful of shows in his pocket Eusky, as he is known to his friends, is already showing signs of emulating today's recognized solo artists.
