About us

The Encierro are a 5 piece indie band from Stirling, Central Scotland. The band are made up of Souey(Lead Vocals,Songwriter),Dave(Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals,Songwriter),Janek(Lead Guitar), Ryan(Guitar#2)and Neil(Drums).Over the past few years there have been various line-ups for The Encierro, all fronted by founder James 'Souey' Lafferty. The band has now found stability and confidence with Souey and Dave Pollock linking up to form a strong song-writing partnership together.

The new line-up began when Souey decided not to give up his dream and started to write up a list of targets to recruit for The Encierro. Souey first recruited lead guitarist Janek Kanikoola who had been jamming with various bands around the town without committing to any of them. Souey had heard of Janek's ability with a Les Paul and made him the first part of The Encierro jigsaw. Souey had known Dave for years after being in the same year at School. However, as far as Souey knew Dave was living in on the other side of the UK in Bristol. It was only by chance that Dave returned home to Stirling just as The Encierro was taking shape. Dave had all but given up on his dream after playing with another Stirling band, The Circle, for a few years in the late 90s. However Soueys enthusiam rubbed off on Dave and he decided to give the dream one last shot.

It was finding a drummer which was the main stumbling block for Souey and Dave. Dave's former drummer from the Circle Johnny Rough was approached but was unwilling to commit to the band at that time. Various drummers filled in as The Encierro began the early stages of practicing the songs which Souey had built up with the previous line-ups. It was only when Neil "The Machine" McCulloch was recruited that the Encierro finally found the backbone it was looking for. Souey had seen Neil play with various other bands, mostly grunge and metal groups. However, it was clear after just a few practices that Neil could play anything - and everything.

After a couple a months hard practice the band began to book gigs around Scotland. The Cathouse in Glasgow and various venues in Stirling were the first to be attacked. The band were beginning to build a cult following in Stirling and this led to the band selling out one of the largest venues in the city, The Tollbooth Theatre. After these impressive performances the band were booked up to support The Stone Roses Experience and Northside on their tours which included a triumphant show at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow. A second guitarist slot has now been filled by young indie kid Ryan Prentice who has fitted in comfortably to the bands style.

Recently the band took over 100 loyal Encierro fans down to Liverpool where they played the famous Cavern Club. In the next few months the band will be supporting The Bluetones when they play there Scottish Tour. The dream is well and trully alive for all members of The Encierro.
