About us

ELR were formed in 2001 by Ben McLees and Mark Waterhouse, and were quickly joined by bassist Dan Gray. In 2002, the band became a 4-piece when keyboardist Joanna Quail joined ELR. Later in the year, after several riotous gigs in London, the band were signed by independent label Wasp Factory Recordings.

2003 saw the band gig as a trio, following Dan's departure; and it was during this time that ELR recorded the album 'Compulsion', which was released to critical acclaim through Wasp Factory in February 2004.

Gareth Small, who had produced the album, joined the band full-time to coincide with Compulsion's release and the band played several memorable gigs over the course of 2004.

Unfortunately, the band split in February 2005, following the release of the 'Futureless'/'Compulsion' EP via the band's [now defunct] website.
Since the split, Mark and Gareth have formed Mordachi, while Ben and Jo have continued working as SonVer.

In November 2006, a new 4-piece line-up of Earth Loop Recall was formed, with Ben and Jo being joined by guitarist Tim Clark, also of I Am Immune; and drummer Dan Vickers, formally of Mazuma Fly.

In August 2007, Jo left the band to focus on other musical commitments, with Jason Knight becoming ELR's new bassist.

ELR plan to release their 2nd album 'This Means Nothing To You' in Autumn/Winter 2007 through LineOut Records.
