About us

Amida are a Manchester based indie/pop band who formed in 2005, making their live debut in November of that year. The line-up consists of John Ammirati (vocals/ guitar), Andrew Beswick (guitar), James Aran Cooper (bass), Sebastian Hood (keyboards) and Scott Challinor (drums). Following a series of gigs in the UK they recorded a demo in April 2006 which received warm reviews and led to support slots with bands such as Camera Obscura, Darren Hayman (formerly of Hefner), The Hazey Janes and Immaculate Machine.

They were featured on several compilations by independent labels such as Passenger Window Records and Rawfish Records, as well as being featured on the ‘Kids At The Club’ indie-pop compilation by the ‘How Does It Feel To Be Loved’ (HDIF) club night in London - the latter receiving high praise from the likes of The Guardian, Pitchfork.com, and Plan B magazine, who hailed it as ‘the real sound of the indiepop underground’.

They played a sell-out headline slot for the HDIF night at the Brixton Windmill in November 2006, as well as receiving air-play on several radio stations such as XFM Manchester, Revolution, and performing live on BBC Radio Manchester.

Amida’s “Arts & Crafts” EP is out now on Plastilina Records..

Reviews

'Had the Go-Betweens hailed from Manchester, they may well have sounded a little like Amida - quietly cool and gloriously romantic indie pop janglers' - Ian Watson, 'How Does It Feel To Be Loved?' Club Night in Brixton, London (www.howdoesitfeel.co.uk).

'Amida make the most perfect, bittersweet indie-pop around, with a whole set of songs which manage to capture the timeless melodies and the friendliness of C86 shambling in around two minutes each' - Cath Aubergine, www.manchestermusic.co.uk

'This is undoubtedly the kind of sound that Manchester has been missing for so long' - demo of the week review, www.manchestermusic.co.uk
